24/7 Emergency Service

Studies show that temperature is a crucial ingredient for a good night’s rest in Dallas. If you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, your thermostat setting might be the reason. Unfortunately, the most efficient settings aren’t always ideal for home comfort, and everyone has different temperature preferences. In general, lower temperatures are recommended for improved rest. Here are a few other tips for finding the ideal nighttime temperature.

Optimal Temperatures for Restful Sleep

The National Sleep Foundation recommends nighttime temperatures between 60 and 67 degrees. On the other hand, the Department of Energy suggests temperatures of 82 degrees in the summer and 62 degrees in the winter. Some particularly frugal energy experts keep their homes at a frigid 56 degrees when the family is asleep. Energy-efficient settings can reduce your annual heating and cooling costs by 10 percent, but they’re outside the comfort range for most people. At Allstars Electric Heating & Air Conditioning, we recommend settings that keep you comfortable.

Why Temperature is Important for Good Rest

Core temperature is an intrinsic part of your body’s natural circadian rhythms. Before bedtime, the brain automatically lowers your body temperature so that you can move into your resting state easily. This occurs about six hours before the body reaches its lowest core temperature around 5 a.m. Then, the brain begins increasing your core temperature until you awaken.

If your bedroom is too warm, you may feel restless and have difficulty falling asleep. If the room is too cold, your body will have trouble maintaining a comfortable core temperature, so you may awaken during the night and have a hard time falling asleep again.

Just one or two degrees can make a big difference in the quality of your rest. It’s fine to adjust the heat or air conditioning for improved home comfort. There’s no need to worry about saving money every minute. Sleep is too important for your health.
