24/7 Emergency Service

There are a ton of problems that can go wrong with a furnace. It’s generally best to contact a professional HVAC contractor any time you notice the furnace isn’t heating your home as well it should. The contractor can perform a furnace repair to ensure you are achieving optimal heating efficiency. Keep reading to learn about the motor reset button on the furnace in your Wylie, Texas, home.

What Does the Furnace Motor Reset Button Do?

The motor reset button on a furnace does just as its name implies — it resets the furnace. If the furnace isn’t kicking on and you’ve checked all fuses and circuit breakers connected to it, simply resetting the heater may fix the problem.

If you reset the furnace and the motor turns off again, it’s best to contact an HVAC contractor. This means there is an underlying problem that needs attention. If you continue to run the furnace and the motor keeps kicking off, you may cause more damage.

Where Is the Furnace Motor Reset Button Located?

The exact make and model of your furnace will determine where the motor reset button is located. If you use central heat and air, the button is likely located in the air handler’s compartment on the blower motor, and it will be either red or yellow. It usually lays flush with the surface of the blower motor until triggered by the internal overload protection circuit. Once triggered, the button will pop out about a 1/2 inch.

Sometimes, a blower motor is installed in such a way that it makes it difficult to see the reset button. If this is the case, it’ll take some reaching around toward the bottom and back of the motor to feel the button. Once located, the button usually has to be pressed for about 30 seconds before it resets the furnace.
